Question snow problem

I am haveing a problem with my 98f150. last winter i hit a few snow drifts on the way to work. parked my truck at home and started it the next day to a loud rattle. poped the hood and there was quite a bit of snow on the top of the motor and a huge chunk of ice in the fan shroud. does anyone make skid plates for stock trucks? and would a bull bar help? or any ideas to fix the problem? thanks for the help
