is this normal. cv axle and 4X4

So I thought my brakes were goin bad so I took my tires off to check I had the truck up on jack stands and I spun the driver side tire to see if anything was rubbing maybe see if rotor was warped and driver side spun fine well I went to the passenger side and tried to turn it and it would not turn so i start looking at the cv axle and it seems like the angle the shaft is pointing is way off so I put tire back on and turn passenger side finally make it turn and it made a loud clunk and stopped turning like its hitting a catch....well then I noticed that the cv axle was turning with that tire when it shouldn't be because the truck is in 2wd and it is turned off so the tire should spin free so I go back to driver side turn on the truck turn it off and then spin driver tire with truck off the cv axle did not turn but then as the tire slowed Down it locked into 4wd apparently because the cv axle started turning and it stopped the tire but when I turned on the truck and left it running and spun both tires they both spun fine but if truck is off it locks into 4wd after I spin the tire....and if I turn it on an off then I can spin the tires but then when either side slows down the cv axle engages and they both quit turning.....is this normal at all

What year is your truck. If 97-01, the front axle always turns. Lockup at the front is at the diff. If 04 up, the engine needs to be running and in 2wd for the front wheels to freewheel. The IWE has a default of locked. Vacuum when started then releases it for 2wd.

Is there a leveling kit or lift kit on the truck? Those can cause premature wear on the cv axles and cause them to break. You might need a new passenger side cv axle.

How big is the leveling kit? And to post pics from a phone you can text the pic to your email, then save it frome your email to the computer, and then upload it to either this website or photobucket or any other photo hosting website.

Sounds perfectly normal, nothing to worry about unless you are hearing noises while driving. Search iwe on the forum, there is a really good write up that explains our 4wd system in depth. Id explain it but its a bit too much to sit here and type on my cell phone.
