4x4 Engaging

Hey, I have a 2006 and my 4x4 tries to engage whenever I'm I hit a bump on the roads. I get a grinding in the front end and when I switch it to 4x4 it goes away. The closes place to take it to get it fixed under warrenty is a 2 hour drive on the highway. Is there anything I can do to stop it other than take the front drive shaft off, I'm assuming it's the transfer case or could it be something else causing it.

Thanks, I did some searching on the internet and found a few people who had the same problem. Mine is only engaging the driver side. From what I read it's probably the IWE solenoid wich is know to go and I could have water in the vacuum line. I'll have to take a look. thanks again.

You might want to go ahead replace that solenoid. If its going bad, it could hurt big time. Mine went bad a couple of months ago and on my way to the hunting camp it start to put my truck in 4x4 while going 70mph. I had no knowledge this was happening and by the time I go to my camp I was hearing this awful noise and I was still in 2wd. What happen is the solenoid went bad and by my front hubs cracked. Now that solenoid will also make a weird noise as well if its going/if it is bad. Shouldn't be more than 50 bucks man...IMO try and replace.
