4.10 questions

This is my first post

On to business...I'm looking into getting 4.10's and a no-slip diff for my truck...here's what I have:

'06 150 4.6 automatic 4 speed tranny and 3.55's

I already bought and installed an EDGE Evo tuner for the truck, so I'm covered as far as correcting the speedo after the gears are on.

I just got this truck 2 weeks ago -- where in the world should I go to get (order) the gears and the no slip differential? Also, would anyone advise against this?

Thanks and sorry for the length!

Joey

Depending on what you do with your truck should determine what limited slip you buy unless money is no object. The Ford OE unit is the least expensive and works great for everyday driving. The only drawback to changing gears is the cost. It's rather expensive, up to $1k or maybe more depending on who does it. And of course your fuel mileage will suffer a little. Personally, I would not want a truck without a rear limited slip.
As far as reliability of the stock unit, the 2000 F150Scab5.4 4x4 I bought new is still running great. A friend bought it from me at 105k miles and it is up to 150k now and no limited slip problems. Later, I bought the 2002 that is in my sig at 69k and now has 93k and no limited slip problems. If you plant to abuse your truck you may want to buy something else. I do not know who to buy the gears from to get the quietest.

americantrucks.com, Summit Racing, & Jegs are all excellent places to begin your search. If it's all too confusing, they all have tech support lines. You might want to start with your local performance store or speed shop. There might be a shop in your area that specializes in drivelines. Or if it comes down to it, visit a 4 Wheel Parts Performance Center.

My 4.10 gears were from Ford Racing. But there are numerous suppliers who are popular. Motive & Richmond are popular.

4wd or 2wd? Why are you getting gears? My gear installation was 250 an axle. I've heard of ppl getting it done for 200 an axle.

I get all my Gears from

http://www.accuautoparts.com/axleinfo.jsp?sr=1
Or
http://www.ringpinion.com/

Ive had no problems with either one... I personaly like my Yukon Gears but I got a buddy that I put a set of Motive gears in for him he's running 36's in mud bogs and no problms.. its all in how you set the gears up YOU HAVE TO BE ON THE MONEY with it if youve never done it it's better to have somone who has do it...

#1 what are your plans for the truck?

#2 a custom tune would be way better than a canned

to #1...for now, just a set of 4.10's, the LS, and a programmer -- I've had that setup before on a previous ford and loved the low end power

#2 I'm definitely all ears for a better tune...like the post says I have an EDGE Evo (not cs/cts) and I'm not sure where to go from there for a better custom tune.

BTW, it's a 2WD truck -- the mods are pretty much for performance...this modular V8 is a beast when you add some low end punch to the acceleration...that's the point of the gears.

if you are dead set on the edge, look at the PHP gryphon CS or the SCT livewire

e-fans won't hurt anything either
