super rusty rear axle
super rusty rear axle
I just picked up a 2010 Lariat SuperCrew last weekend. It only had 69 miles on it when I took delivery. This week I was following behind in a car while dropping it off at the sound shop to get some subs installed and I noticed the entire rear axle and pumpkin were pretty rusty.
Now being that the truck is brand new, should this be the case? I have seen other new trucks and their axles are still relatively paint covered. I'm sure it isn't structural or anything, but it looks terrible on a brand new truck. Does anyone think I would be able to get this repainted under the warranty?

Take it back to the dealer and see if warranty will cover it. Because My 4 FX4 still has a painted axle with the marks on it that looks brand new. You shouldnt have that issue.

Thanks
Thanks Drick. I guess I was just wondering if any other new truck owners had the same issue, so your reply reassures me that I definitely should not be satisfied. I'll try to insert an image of the axle, hope it works.
P.S.- I have already cut the stock exhaust and replaced it with true duals and 40 Series Flowmasters- should that cause any problems at the dealership?

Damn that's rusty. The axle on my old 94 Chevy didn't even look that bad and I live in salt country. Take that back to the dealer to get it repainted, they will have to cover that. The exhaust shouldn't cause a problem at all. The only thing you'll get for that is someone will ask you why you cut off the factory stainless exhaust.
Ford should paint that under warranty. If they don't, just do what I did and use some flat black Rustoleum. Mines a 2008 and was not rusty at all, but I just couldn't get it as clean as I wanted it. All I did was tape off any metal colored bolts, etc. It was easy. Looks brand new still.\
No matter what, your axle should not look like that on a brand new truck. That would really **** me off if that happened to me.
Here's mine after I painted it.

Wow, that looks awful. I'm guessing that they didn't even paint yours. If they don't cover it, I would use some rust converter on it and paint it with some high durability paint.

Yea. Wow thats realllllly rusty. If it doesnt get covered use some tractor paint in black on there. That stuff is so thick and corrosion proof it wont ever rust again
The bean counters figured it would save Ford 37 cents a vehicle by not painting the axles.... don't you just love the bean counters???
Ford used to paint their axles, but Manual used so much pain that it ran the price up for Ford so much that they couldn't afford to paint 'em anymore.

Here's my nice pretty rear axle:
You can get a sunburn if you sit under my truck too long from all of the reflectivity.
