Question 4x2 to 4x4

is it possible to convert a 98 f150 2 wheel drive into a 4x4?? If so how much would that cost??? More than most people would want to spend I'm sure.

4x4's have torque-rod suspension for the front end.

IF it is possible at all, you would need to replace virtually everything related to the steering, plus whatever sub-frame-related goodies (back under the front seat) where the torque rods adjust.

THEN you'd need to dink with the axle gearing itself (plus transfer case and special output case for the transmission).

Lastly, the driveshaft to the rear axle is also different.

I'd bet that is is possible if you were to buy a complete rollover for the parts -- but I've never actually looked at the (dis)similarities of the two chassis.

Sounds like quite a project (but you're not the first to ask).

Tell us if you try it; and

Good luck!

i would just trade in for a 4x4 because it sounds like a ton of work and a lot of money.
i am sure there is a kit out there. i see them in four wheeler all the time.

They make a kit to change older fords over, but I don't know about new ones. It might be easier if you used a solid fron axle for the conversion.
