2001 Rear End replacement
2001 Rear End replacement
I've got a 2001 4.6 SuperCab F150 with just under 100k miles. Having issues with the rearend, with having a suspected carrier bearing failing, I've had 2 shops look at it and a rebuild looking to be in the 1200-1500 range, I'm looking for a bit more affordable approach and just snagging a rear end off of a front end wrecked f150. Either way my question is. Since I have the 4.6 with open diff will a 5.4 rear end bolt up to my existing truck/ driveshaft? Or will I need to look for a 4.6 truck. Only ask this because I found a 5.4 rear end and want to know if it will work or should I keep looking. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
GLC- Thanks for the quick response. Are there any other concerns I should worry about with using a different rear end. Gas mileage? Computer problems? Or any thing else of the sorts I might run into. Guy wants 250 for entire rearend and the driveshaft. Figured even if its a quick fix better then dropping 1500+.
any rear end out of an f150 will bolt up to your f150.
you have to check driveshafts when switching from an 8.8 to a 9.75. you also never specified if you were 2 or 4wd. i'm guessing you are 2wd so you will be fine there.
H9 is a 3.55 ls axle so your gear ratios are the same, no speedo corrections needed. the limited slip will probably be a nice improvement as well.
what i can gather from what you've told us, you should be just fine getting the driveshaft and rear end. 250 is a steal. the cheapest complete assembly around here is around a thousand for the rear end alone.
--EDIT--
for future reference, fill out some more information. make a sig like mine and glc's as well as filling out the info you see in the top right of each of our posts. it will help out in the long run when you are asking questions about fixing your truck.
