locker for 10' xlt?

Hey there, new forum member and potential f-150 owner here.

So I like the FX4 but cant bring myself to spend that kind of $$ on a pickup. The XLT suits my needs very well except for one thing: Maine.

-I live in Maine, and would really like to have the locking rear diff for the boat ramps, getting out to my buddy's camp a mile into the woods in feb, pulling chevys out of the ditch, getting up my 200' steep driveway, moving some trees arounf in the back field, etc.

I was planning on putting some skid plates, a little bit of lift (2inch leveling most likely), and bigger tires on it. Nothing too wild, because I have to drive the thing from Maine to NYC for work.

LONG POST MADE SHORT: do they make selectable lockers for the 09+ with 3:55s open yet? how about the front?

thanks fellas

pretty sure the rear ends haven't changed for the 150s since 97, or at least not enough to have to look for different lockers.

i guess what i'm saying is find what replacement diff you want and match it to the rear end that comes with the truck. it will either be a 9.75 or 8.8.

2 recommended lockers are the auburn ected and i believe eaton makes a selectable. has arb come out with theirs for the 9.75 yet?

With all you plan to add to your truck, are you sure you're going to be saving that much money going with the XLT over the FX4? When I bought my truck a few months ago, I debated over whether to equip an XLT or just buy the FX4. After I totaled all the product costs + installation, I really wasn't saving much. Plus I had to have all the parts installed, which costs me time.

In the end I went with the FX4 and have been really happy with it.

Perhaps you're equipping it differently, so it makes sense for you to get the XLT, just a thought

Tidal- you would be right sir judging by the online configurator on the ford site. Problem is A: the dealer only has 2 FX4s, one of them is loaded ($$$) and the other is red (no offense, I just dont do red). B: the XLT on the lot has been there since at least december (it has last year's inspection sticker) so I think there will be even more wiggle room on the price.

It should'nt be any bigger of a deal to replace the LS rear with an eaton elocker over a stock open rear to eaton right?

Sound like you should get a good deal on that XLT!

As for the locker, check out Page 6 (page number is 4 at the bottom page for some reason) of this PDF from Eaton's website:

http://www.eaton.com/ecm/groups/public/@pub/@eaton/@per/documents/content/ct_128302.pdf

It shows the model number of the parts you need for your truck.

If you wind up going with the truck and swap out the differential, be sure to post pics! Good luck!

Hey thanks for the help!

But... after calling my local auto aftermarket shop, it appears eaton does'nt make an "elocker" for the 9.75", as verified by that pdf you provided. Auto-locker and truetrac (a good option over clutch based systems) yes, but no e-locker. If the truck had an open diff I'd definitely go with the truetrac, but where it already has LS it would be a little overboard to replace it.

I thought I read on here somewhere that it was eaton who made the elocker for the FX4? hmmm, oh well... the XLT at the dealership is looking more and more enticing.

Oh, man

Yeah I guess they don't have an E-Locker for the 9.75. Sorry for the false hope, I misread that PDF.

As for the stock E-Locker on the FX4's, I think GKN makes them.

It looks like they only sell through dealers though. Maybe you could order a "replacement" part

I'm going to keep looking though, I know a couple other guys that want a 9.75 E-locker as well.
