Well I ordered the Haynes Manual for my truck .. 24.95 .. Wow they went up alot .. Now for the rear end .. I see that I have to pull the diff cover , drain the fluid, pull the tire , brakes /caliper then take off the pinion and move the axles in and remove the C Clip then slide the axle out , remove old bearings and seals .. then put new bearings and seals in and the put it all back .. WOW It sounds easy .. But I am going to be doing this on concrete in the open air with Jackstands Shop down the street wants 800.00 (((BUNCH OF CROOKS))))

 

Sounds like you got some problems but your looking at top many things at once. Go for the major issue and figure that put then worry about the other problems after. You just going to be chasing your tail at this point.

 

Rain Rain Rain.. I went and bought the Haynes manuel today and start reading The one I bought has my truck and all truck 1997 thru 2009...I bought some brake cleaner to clean up the grease around the back drivers side disc as it is not leaking as bad as I once thought.. Going to do that after it gets thru raining..While I was under the hood checking vac lines I figured I would clean out the intake assembly and my K&N filter needed cleaning and recharging.. Now it's raining ... Well before the rain came I got under the truck and tried to move the driveshaft to check the u joints again no luck , then I noticed the torsion bars squeak when I lift the truck up and down a little, I also noticed the long steering arm is really lose and wobbley, One thing in the haynes manual dealing with the ABS wires it says trace the wires from the Top of the rear diff to the BOO Brake Light on and Off.. So wonder if I just have something lose under the brake on/off switch..

This Morning I ran a test .. Parking brake on shifted into drive with a clunck give it gas and clunck let off gas then give it gas clunk again.. So I need U- Joints thats the next project ..

Oh yea I had some no it all at Atuozone tell me even if I fix the ABS problem the ABS light will not go off unless I take it to the dealer and have it reset because he says my truck has a KAM ( Keep all Memory ) Chip in the computer >> Sounds Like Total BS to me..

 

Yes, it has a KAM, but disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes will clear it. KAM stands for Keep Alive, not Keep All.

 

Ok I am going to give it a shot .. I cleaned the brakes , did some routine maintenance to the truck yesterday.. I found a break in a wire as well.. It was running to a little actuator thing .. I looked all throught the haynes manual and could not find out what it was but it is on the firewall next to the master cylinder it has 2 vac lines running to it , It is about the size of a pill bottle and has a breather looking cap on it , there is also one of these next the throttle body.. I will get a pic when I go outside .. Also I must say I was really upset with my haynes manual it has no fuse or relay info, It also has no vac diagrams and just a list of the basic stuff.. 24.00 ... Heck I have looked at chilton manuals before but they are worded so complicated.. I also downloaded the manual for my truck and found the fuse diagram I will go and check the fuses again.. I forgot to mention that the rear axle leak has all but stoped once I cleaned out the vent tube .. I checked the oil level just to make sure and its full.. Hmmm go figure.. I am also in a fight with the tire place that sold me the Bridgestone Duelar A/T's They will not rotate them as promised, the tires have 6000 miles on them , they will not even pull my tire and check the balance of the tire , they just say it is a bad tire and they will be glad to sell me a new one.. Next tires I am going to Big 10.... I would think a 150.00 tire should last longer than 6000 miles.. Anyhow the owner of the tire place is supposed to be there today so I am once again going to go over there and see what he says .. ( The exact words from the manager the other day were " We rotate them if we see it is nesscary to do so and as far as a bad tire or road hazard we dont offer a solution to that you will have to contact bridgestone..."" Now from Bridestone email " Please take your truck back to where you bought the tires and have them checked and let us know how we can help " I am getting the run around over a tire .. OMG.. I guess the next thing coming is a out of round tire is not a road hazard and you will have to buy a new tire due to improper alignment..are something crazy like that

Everyone says ring and pinion cause a whine.. But I have heard U-joints can cause a whine at certian speeds as well..

So will a bad tire, out of round or balance..

I think it was said a bad ring and pinion will cause a constant whine ( Not My Case )
A bad Tire will cause a rumble and whine that changes with speed ( Could Be )
A bad U- joint will make different sounds at different speeds ( Could Be )
