Question Another problem

I just posted how I changed out the frunt hub bearing assembly's , Shocks on the front, and the rear diff ABS sensor in another thread., Well I stil lhave a vibration and humming sound when driving ... Sounds like an on and off whirring sound.. It is not real loud.. The truck still pulls to the right a little .. I had Firestone on Hwy 49 check out all the steering parts and said no problems.

I have a slight pop noise when engaging 4 wheel drive but not when driving in 4WD..
The whirring sound increases and decreases with speed..

Since I replaced the hub bearings and put new shocks on the whirring is a little better but I still have that vibration when moving .. I can feel it real good when I am coasting or going slow , at high speed itis just a humming sound..

So now I am leaning into thinking maybe it could be CV joints .. They dont feel bad and there is plent of grease in the boots .. I was also thinking about checking theoil in the front transfer case.. I just dont know where to go at this point

Ok I took the truck down the road pulling my 12 foot trailer.. I noticed the humming sound was worse when going over dips in the road .. I also noticed that going from park to Reverse and nuetral to drive I am getting a slight clunk.. So now I am thinking U-Joints.. That would explain the vibration as well as the humming .. Maybe it eill explaing the different pitch of hum when going over dips in the road..

I wonder if shops just hate to run an ABS test and then tell you what the problem is.... I wonder if they are like well it just has a loose wire but we are going to charge this guy about 600.00 so we dont won't him to know whats really wrong... The reason I say this is when I was having all this cv axle work done they did not run the ABS test but they said if I bring it back Monday they would be glad to run the test and fix it.. I asked can you just run the test , they said yes and we can fix it... I do not want to be rude but I know I am fixing to get a big bill.. I have got to come up with a plan .. I believe the ABS Computer box thing has to be bad , I dont know how are why but I have replaced everything else dealing with the ABS system so >>>>> I just hate not knowing whats wrong with my truck...

Ok starting with the obvious first .. The rumbling sound will be fixed hopefully with friction modifier and a complete rear end gear oil change .. Tommorrow.. Now as far as the bounce on stopping.. I am taking a wild guess that I have a bad bearing in the rear end which I will more than likely discover tomorrow.. However I am going to have to pray that it is not as I was told by the wife ( NO More working on your truck ) Now I am going outside this morning and checking fluid levels.. My owners manual was and is about useless on describing where every fluid check port is located .. I know the obvious and I also think I know where the front diff port is I hope. While I hate taking the truck to the dealer or to a shop ( most of the time ) I am about at the point where my wife has a point , just do regular maintenance on the truck and when it blows up on the road when I am 400 miles away at 2 am .. Call her to come pick me up ... More to come and I am taking pictures .....this way if I cant figure it out at least I will have a bunch of pictures for yall to look at...

Ok quick observation .. Checking the front diff.. The new cv shaft look great .. But I pushed up and down on the drivers side shaft and there is some movement in the front diff. where the cv shaft bolts to the flange .. There is no leaks but the flange on the diff does move up and down and side to side a bit... More to come

I checked the front diff and it is full of oil.. The oil is clear and not very viscous .. almost feels like the viscosity of regular motor oil but it is 100 percent clear..

Next door neighbor came over and loked under the truck while I was rocking it and said there was some play in the rear u-joint ..so that could be the squeaking .. I guess I will have it checked out too They are also going to check why my stupid ABS light is still on.. I got to thinking about this and reading countless amounts of rear end problems and adding friction modifier and all that stuff..Why doesn't ford just own up to the fact they built a sorry rearend and recall this junk.. Its almost like haveing someone say well it leaks oil so go get some stop leak ... Come on Ford this is not normal..

Ileft something out and I know this is hard to believe but the whining and rumbling sounds from the rear get worse when the the truck has been driving a while ie. (Warmed up) Maybe I should just let the ABS light stay on and drive it till it falls apart like was suggested by one so called 25 year certifried mechanic...I was also told from the Ford de3alership about a month before I started working on the problem that 4x4's just make noise and ride rough thats all it is to it.. I then asked him why my brother in laws truck doesnt make all of this noise , he said that some trucks even if they are the same truck just make more noise than others.. Oh Please .. and to top it off they all said the same thing about my 2003 FX4 ( why dont you buy a new F150 ) I think they Just want my FX4 ,, I told one service guy that I didn't hink the 2010 would get 165000 miles like my 2003... But one things for sure this and all new Ford trucks wont get close to the 400,000 on my 1993 F150 with the 4.9 straight 6 and the Mazda 5 speed trans.. SO I guess the question today ( right now ) is (((((ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL)))))

IMO, this is what your trans fluid should look like....

I don't know what to say about the rest of your issues, but it sounds like you are doing your due diligence to isolate the problem!

Not sure what you are referring to on the rear end problem and blaming Ford for it?? Sure, you might have gotten a bad one, but that don't mean every single one is like yours...

Good luck with the diagnostics!

??Yours looks white to me?? The fluid has that look like it's gotten water in it? At any rate, I'd change it ALL and go from there. (by ALL, I mean the TC too..)

I replaced my rear U joint about 100,000 miles ago as it was a bit loose too, but I only found out about it when I did crawl under there and gave the drive shaft a 'twist' and it had movement at the joint..

I've never experienced the kinds of 'sounds' yours is making... I'm still on my OEM front end "everything"... I've never had to do anything with any of it.. I've replaced the diff fluids a couple of times. I did have a leaky rear axle seal on the right side.. About 100,000 miles ago..... Never any problems with it otherwise. Even the LS still works!

Hopefully, you can find the causes to your issues! I know I have to fix my broken exhaust manifold bolts, but just haven't gotten to it yet... No excuse, just lazy I guess!

Well my saints are 8-0 . It was a close one... Anyway during half Time I decided to drain the rear diff and use my wifes car to run and get some RP Gear Oil .. Made it back to see that the rear diff oil was black and liquedy... Different from the front diff case that was clear and liquedy.. I forgot to mention whoever had this truck before me installed a drain plu on the rear diff ( Sweet ) I dont know how long the rearend will last once I change out the fluid but I will say there was some very slight glitter of metal shavings that came out ... Oh well ... I never had a problem with my 1993 F-150 XL rear end wonder what happened over the years ,, Is the LS rearend always had problems
