Angry same issue

I have had the smae issue with my '04 and have tried to get it fixed (I think 3 times now) with no avail. I have found out 2 times it wasn't working the hard way (luckily I was around civilization and able to get unstuck - could have been much worse if out in the back woods). After forking out ~$400 each "fix" and still not having it work, I am getting a bit pissed. The truck is worthless w/o 4x4. This appears to be a common problem, yet Ford won't do anything about it.

Is there a shift fork in the 04 F150s? Everything I have read seems to be about the 03s.

I have an 04 and I'm having 4WD problems! I move the switch on the dash to 4H and I can hear the IWE actuator click. I can also hear the motor on the Tcase operate but I'm not sure if it is engaging completely. Is there anyway to tell if the motor is working completely?

I have checked for vacuum at my hubs in 2wd and it is there. When I shift to 4H the vacuum goes away. This tells me that the IWE actuator is working correctly. I have also tested 4L and the Tcase dose shift to the lower gear but I don't get front tire spin.

The truck's back tires are off of the ground, the fronts are on the pavement and the only tires that spin are the rear. I would think that if 4WD worked the front tires would pull the truck right off of the jackstands.

Haha I am having the same problem, I also found out the hard way 2 times, took it to the shop they said it was a vacuum line, they said they fixed it, few months later still not engaging.

Doesnt sound right, check the front diff for any mounts that are cracked or removed the front cover and check for any suspicious failed components.

What makes you say this doesn't sound right? Do you mean that if the motor was bad then I wouldn't have the ability to go into 4L? And if there is vacuum at the hubs then it should engage, but since I don't you think there's an internal problem?

Do the 2004 F150s have the shift fork that is commonly referred to?
