4.88 gear question

first off i have a 2008 xlt 5.4L w/ 3.55's.. i want to buy some 4.88's so here is my question... My rearend is a 9.75" diff. and the front is a 8.8" diff. correct?

I found a website called jawsgears.com that sells them for a decent price so i was just making sure thats correct before i bought them...

Oh and the front diff. gears need to be 8.8" reversed gears right? thanks

Yes, the rear is a 9.75 and the front is an 8.8 reverse cut. What size tires are you going with to need 4.88s? What kind of quotes for install did you get?

Do you have the tools and ability to install them correctly?

You are correct. I just bought a pair of Yukon 4.88s today from ORW. As far as doing it yourself, it's a real pain in the butt. I helped my buddy do a gear swap on his jeep about 3 years ago and didn't get it right the first time... or the second. Of course we did go to the junkyard for the parts. Still, I want the piece of mind that it's done right. Are you going to put the stock differential covers back on or upgrade?

I guess it comes down to confidence... I don't have it when it comes to gears and like you I also don't have the patience. You'll save a butt load of money if you can manage it but like dillon sad, a bad install can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage and any warranty you might have with the product is out the window. I only have one vehicle. That's why for my gear swap I'm droppin the truck off in the morning at the shop and picking it up at the end of the day. Maybe review the gear swap write up as suggested by efuehrin and then decide. If you do it yourself, take some pics and show us how it went.
