MY 4x4 story

NO one seems to have my same problem.....

I have ESOF.

I turn the **** to A4WD, the A4WD light comes on on my dash, but it just blinks.....

I turn it to 4HI, nothing happens...

4LO- nothing...

last year I would turn it to 4HI, it would click, click, click, click, then engage.... but I went to go back to 2WD and it wouldnt do a thing. I had to turn the truck off and back on for it to disengage....

wtf

i have your problem.

i dont understand it, nobody lent me a hand.

i did however discover it has a mind of its own, sometimes it will engage 4x4 hi and low without indicating lights, after a series of clicks. but its a crap shoot if it comes out. im thinking about replacing relay.

Probably the shift motor on the t-case. I would try another known good part and see if it fixes it. I've seen this problem several times and more times than not, it is the motor.

I remember hearing a problem like this around here recently. The problem is the switch on the transfer case to switch it to 4wd. The contacts inside the switch get corroded and dont work properly. Ill try to find the thread for you....

Your Expedition transfer case uses a slightly different method of engaging 4x4. In AWD it pulses an electromagnetic clutch to achieve AWD. When you switch to 4Hi or Low the clutch is fully engaged. A defective clutch will either remain in AWD, stay locked in 4x4 or not engage at all. Have you checked for water intrusion at the GEM?
