Clunk at first/ Now a rattle?
Yep about $5.00 at the dealership only. They have loctite on them. I know because I had one fall out last winter at 11:00 pm during a snowsrtorm. Mine was the passenger side bottom bolt. I heard a noise while driving and thought I must of hit a large rock whatever. Then as I hit my brakes to stop at a light I heard a hell of a noise at the right front and my tire blew out. Because the bottom bolt fell out the caliper flipped up when the brakes were applied and the caliper lodged against the inside of my aluminum rim. The end of the caliper broke through the rim allowing all the air to escape (hole the size of a golf ball). Pulled over dark as hell and snowing like crazy no one around. My stuff never breaks at noon on a nice day... Changed the tire when stuck a piece of coat hanger through the bolt hole to keep the caliper from flipping up again and drove home. Cost me $65.00 for a used rim and $ 4.00 something for the replacement bolt. Glad you found the problem could have been worse. Take care.
I carry a roll of chicken coop wire with me, If I would have seen that bolt missing, that would have came to mind. That, or my boot laces

Yea, I 'll replace all 4 bolts since you posted that info and what happened to you (that must have been a fun night). I've put 8000 miles on those calipers (Cardons w/steel pistons and HD lines braided) and love the awesome stopping power they provide, she stops on a dime, even loaded and without trailer brakes. A fresh set of anchor bolts can't hurt. I've probably had those bolts off and re-torqued 20 times since I've owned this truck.
Thanks DYNOTECH.

The only reason I had a coat hanger that night was because my wife had her thong bikini on the hanger behind my truck seat....
well I'll quit dreaming now...LOL More than once a simple piece of wire has saved my butt from getting towed I always have a piece of some kind under the seat. Later Jbrew.

Yea , my ex had one of those bikini's. A few years after we were hitched, she framed the thing behind glass and hung it on the wall, -saying she's going to break that glass when she was assured she could get into the thing again without a shoe horn
Well, whatever avenue was followed after that had adverse effects, -I'll tell yuh that right now.... It must be buried in a keep sake chest somewheres by now.

ANYWAY lol, fixed it for now, -until I get to the dealership. I ended up having 3 spare 10.9 bolts, same length and thread pitch in the metrics barrel.
Torque on those are 123 - 167' lbs . Hell my 1/2" Torque ratchet only goes to 150' lbs, so that's what they got with a little extra nudge. Other side was already there. Yea, front end checked out good and she doesn't make a peep, at full strength again.
I'm surprised, NO damage anywhere. Top bolt was gone, bottom was loose, the brake hose kept the caliper somewhat in place on top, that's not good, BUT, the line is fairly new w/8000 miles on it, still looked healthy. - Yea surprised.
Got luckier than hell on this one, I was pricing the entire front end out at first. No damage, unlike in your case. Maybe the time of day had something to do with it ?
Knock on wood for sure

Later man

Same thing has also happened to me. I was on a road trip and the bottom caliper bolt on the passenger side came out. When the caliper flipped out, it wore a hole in my new Helo Maxx6 rim, causing it to leak and I limped to the stealership. Got a new bolt, threw on my spare, an off we went again. Cost me $330 to replace the rim, stealership gave me a new bolt, said it was a freebie, for such a good customer as me.
Yea, I'm feelin luckier with each post in this thread lol. If I would have pulled the wheel sooner, I would have found the problem quicker. - Still, turned out well considering. Well, one dealer down, they don't have the bolts. The ones I have will work, their 10.9's and are Ford bolts,- I'll just get some loctite. From experiance, the loctite you can purchase at a third party auto parts isn't the same as the stuff the dealership uses ? Why is that ? Anyone know? SHOOT!, I should have seen if they had that at the dealer lol. Well, I know there's Blue and Red - Reds more common. Ah crap, I'll hit another dealer.
Yea, if memory serves me right, the red or blue stuff I've used in the past didn't seem like it did much at all. Well, maybe it wasn't applied correctly ? I'll wire wheel the bolts, then clean w/lacquer thinner before the application. I most likley didn't do that in the past.
Thing is, you know how some hardware will have some sort of Orange thread seal or a locker on them ? - Like your coolant sensor/sender for example or CHT. That's the stuff I need to find. They have that on the block plugs as well.
Wow, I have a pic of that lol -

My compressor has the same stuff it seems like, -it's like a silicon. I usually opt for Teflon tape for brass, but somehow I don't think that applies here lol.

Yea, that makes sense. From what I gather Red is suppose to be a more permanent deal/ Blue removable. I'll have to ask the dealership if they sell it. If not,-might have to slip past Joe Service and ask a tech over their, -probably wouldn't hurt.
