4x4 not engaging at all

Hi I have a 2002 F150 that has the 4x4 on the floor. Anyways today when i went to put it into 4x4, the shifter was stuck up front and I could not pull it back. I could move it side to side but I could not engage it into 4x4 or 4x4low at all.

I was planning on selling the truck so this is a major defect when selling a large truck like this. So if you guys could help me out with some reasons why this could be happening that what be great.

Thanks,
Carl

My 97 has the same problem.
I put it on the lift and removed the
plastic shroud on the transfer case.
I found a 5 inch vacuum shifter (you may have
an electric shifter) I sprayed lube on parts and
forced it in and out a few times. In one
direction the front wheels lock togeather (good sign).
It is now working again, Maybe I need a new
vacuum part, You may need the shifting motor ($100)

As you have the MSOF, my guess would be that the linkage is frozen or broke. That would be where I would start.

Penetrating oil on the linkage at the joints. I would also spray there the lever enters the T-case. Once you work it free it should shift.
