3.73 to 4.30 gears in FX2

Ok, so I am looking at swapping out gears in the truck. Its an 07 FX2 screw. I have 3.73's in there right now and want a little more gear to help pull the new TT. It's a 32' with a GVWR of 7,000lbs. The truck does pretty good at sea level but I live at 4,500' and tend to go up into the mountains from here with some of the passes being in the 7,000+ range. The truck struggles to get up the hills to say the least.

I was debating putting in 4.10's but didn't think it would be a big enough gain for the cost involved so I am looking at the 4.30's. Anybody using the 4.30's in their 2wd trucks? How do you like them?

Thanks
Chris

I agree...a supercharger will eliminate the lack of oxygen problem that you are having at high altitude. And with towing 7000#'s going up mountains in high altitude...I would also go with 4.56 gears...along with the supercharger...that would make for one hell of a ride when your not towing

4.56 gears for a 2WD seems like overkill. 4.30's will make a big difference and make towing somewhat bearable. And like the others have said, a supercharger will do what you want.

I don't think I am willing to go the supercharger route. Just want something to help it move along a little better while towing and just don't want to dump a lot of money into it. Would rather spend that money on the new TT and stuff for it.

Thanks!

With that load and that altitude without forced induction, 4.56's.

With that big of a TT at that altitude, I'd trade the truck in on a Superduty with a turbodiesel.

with that size of trailer and a 1/2 ton, youo definantly want 4.56 or lower...

you also want a large tranny cooler and an upgraded braking system on the truck and trailer

while I would never tow that size trailer with a 1/2 ton it's your truck your choice, I just hope my family is never near you while you are towing in the mountains
