4.56 gears and 33" tires

Is this too much gear for 33" tires? This is my daily driver and I drive on 55 mph roads 85% of the time. I pull atvs and boats perodically. Right now I have 3.73s and 285/70/17s 4wd. Does anyone know the gear ratios from the transmission so I could calculate RPMs and such? I know 4.10s would be close to stock, but 4.56 would add improved power. But all i see is 4.56 gears suggested for 35's.

Thanks

2005 FX4 Supercrew 4x4 3.73 LS 5.4 3v 285/70/17 Gotts Intake and dual exhaust.

search fxn worked!

Just searched "456" and found that with 33's I should be at stock gearing plus some more low end. 4.10s are not worth the labor, and the added low end grunt with 4.56 will be nice.

Now to save some mulah!!

http://www.4lo.com/calc/gearratio.htm

3rd is 1:1 and 4th (overdrive) is 0.7:1. Transfer case in 2wd and 4hi is 1:1.

I ran 4.56's with 33's for about year and I loved the combo, the truck felt incredibly light and drove perfectly. I just cant remember where my rpms were at highway speeds.

At 70 mph in OD, the calculator says 2275.

Why did you only run that combo for a year?

That's why, I had a set of 33's before I got the lift then got the new gears a few months later and then moved up to 35's.

55 mph roads.. So you probably drive 60, 65 max?

I think it'd be fine, the extra low end would MORE than make up for it.

That setup would be about the same as the 4.88s and 35s that I am going to be running... heck, even our driving habits are similar!

Yeah I drive 55-65 max, some highway but not enough to really count. I cant decide between a tuner or gears. Id rather do gears, but not if my engine is gonna run 3K rpms at 65mph. I'd love to hear what kind of mileage/power someone got with the 4.56/33" combo.

You aren't going to be running 3k at 65. Use the calculator I linked to.
