Look at what the lightnings are putting to the wheels. They hook and go. Get one with disk brakes and the calliper will hold the axle in place if you break one.

Leaving a broken axle in, using the caliper to hold it, will lead to ring and pinion failure, and maybe worse. Little chunks of metal are now floating around in your diff. Full float you can pull it out, and keep the tire on.

9.75 is nice. But far harder to find, and far more expensive, and doesn't have the aftermarket support it should (not yet anyways).

Dana 70-80 and a Dana 70 front.

Or 14 bolt front and rear

or 609's front and rear

ok, I am drooling on my keyboard again.

GM 14 bolt is a full floater, and the 12 bolt is semi floater.

I agree with JMC, also the 9.75s in the superdutys run heavy loads day in and day out.....

14 bolt comes in both, FF and semi.

9.75 is fine. They are decent rear ends, and would make for an easy swap, if you can find one. Easy swaps are always tempting.

One more wonderful thing about 9"s...ya can buy an already setup chunk for dirt cheap.

I got mine setup with a full spool, with one run on it for less than the gears would have cost alone.

nice ! And ya, a 9" third is way easy to find around here ! Dime a dozen, where I would have to special order a 9.75, or go looking. Any rock I flip over I find 9", dana axles, etc.

oh... the tone ring... mines a 97 so it only used for abs correct?

Did anyone mention of there was support for changing the 9.75 to a full floater even though that sounds expensive lol

It could probably handle it. A Dana 70, or 80 would make me feel better though.

Dana 60 full float would be a better option then the semi.

Nope, you'd have to go custom. Like I said, the aftermarket just isn't behind the 9.75. Its not nearly as readily available.

Nothing a little sand paper won't fix. Yup, time for a bigger differential.
