Gearing?

Alright guys im not new too this but im gonna need some help.... Im in iraq right now and the internet isnt all that well and dont get on very much

So i keep forgetting but i have a 2005 FX4 stepside and wanting to buy 4.88 gearing for it but what is the rear end? Its 9'' Right both front and rear?
So another question is can you guys help me find the cheapest and the best gears to buy? If possible can you just post the links on here so i can just click on it. I really do appreciate it guy im thanking you in advance.

Heres some pics i got 11" total on 35s but getting my 37s from my moms house but getting it geared the same time im putting the 37s on. But here is how she sits as of now.

I may just sell the 37s and the 35s and get a brand new set of 39s or 40s so if any one is interested let me know and well talk more about it.

you have the 5.4L, right? if so, for the rear, you will need the ford 9.75 gear. if you have the 4.6L, for the rear, you will need the ford 8.8 gear.

for the factory independent front, you will need the ford 8.8 IFS reverse rotation.

if you're doing a SAS, you will need gears for that specific solid axle. hope this helps, i really haven't been keeping up w/ what you're doing.

-Yeah i have the 5.4
-Ok so front 8.8 reverse and rear 9.75

-My plans were to do a SAS on this and run 46s or 49s but just made no sense to ruin all my **** on this truck bc im gonna pay it off and i already have it the way it is and can sell my 37s and 35s and use that money for the 39s or 40s and just keep 11" of lift. So most likely this will just be my DD and i will buy a new or used superduty and do the SAS on that and run 46s or 49s sense half the **** is already on there and no major modifications i will need to do too it.( like having to build crossover steering, find new axles , and steering box etc) So just IMO its smarter to do it that way so then ill have two lifted trucks one a monster and one a DD

ok, you have your gearing down, then. good brands to select from are precision gears, ford racing gears, and yukon gears. stay away from anything else.

honestly, i would stick w/ 38's. 38's, 4.88's, and a lead foot in 4 Low will snap cv shafts like twigs. 39's or 40's is asking for trouble on IFS. a 38x14.50 or 38x15.50 is a BIG tire, trust me.

yeah, those are correct, but i would get the master install kits with them as well, the master kits contain all the misc bearings, seals, shims, etc you should change out as well at regearing time.

Alright that sounds good but is 609.90 just for the yukon gears front and rear a good price? thats not including the master install kits and also how much would it be to install the gears? is 1600 guys paying for gears and install or just install? Whats the deal about changing the oil after getting re geared

$1500+/- includes parts. so, you'll already have the parts and it'll be less. find a good gear/driveline shop in your area to install the gears, NOT your local 4wheelparts dealer.

you are supposed to take it easy on the new gears for the first 500 miles, and then change the oil. let the shop do this, so they can check for irregular wear, etc.

I have a buddy of mine who has a 250 diesel on 40's that has stripped his genuines 3 times already. That warranty is nice because the gearsets are free, but labor isn't.

I saw you say that you want to run a 38-40" tire on this truck. I would probably go with Yukons or something a little more dependable than the genuines, but its your call man.

Either way, get a good shop or experienced buddy, take your time during install, and BREAK THEM IN!

Silver- Yeah thats the only downside too that lifetime warranty but it seems guys are having better luck with the yukons

Efuehrin- Yeah im looking on sites now but have a guy back home who is gonna do the install but im communicating back and forth and seeing what he is getting the gears for and he said he would charge $50/Hr.
