For those that have set up gears in a 9.75...

what backlash/patterns/gear sets are you guys finding to be the quietest? im thinking precisions are going to be the recommended gear set, but is there a particular way or any tricks to get rid of the whine?? TIA

i have the 8.8, i have set my lash at 10 thou. as with any axle you want to get the pattern in the middle of the teeth, not too deep / shallow or too far in our out. theres no getting around that part, they're all basically the same to my knowledge.

my rear axle is quiet. its the front that makes all the noise with that retarded lunchbox locker i used.

I have Yukon front and back and don't hear a thing. I forget what backlash I set it up at. But for some reason 12 sounds right.

thanks. it sounds like theres really not a trick to it...just a matter of getting a R&P that were machined right at the factory and run quiet. general rule of thumb is .001" of backlash for every inch of ring gear diameter
