Some questions about what axle gears to use...

I prolly should have had a notched cross pin on mine. I ended up just shaving down one tooth just a hair with a dremel tool. That gave me just enough clearance.
Williys, Not sure if you saw it but I did a write up with pics, it's in the other/powertrain section at the top. It may help ya some. gear swap write up rev A

well i have been doing some thinking and i think i have decided to just wait a little bit more and upgrade to the bigger 10.25" or what ever it is rear axle...i dont want to pay for gears and the break an axle and have to start all over...does anyone know how much an axle like that would cost? and where would i get it? junk yards? also what gear ratios did those come with? because if they are something like 4.56 i might just keep those gears in it...i dont know. what do you guys think? Thanks

keep in mind that the 10.25 is a 7 lug. you will not be able to rotate tires without taking them off the wheels, and switching them over, as the bolt patterns will not match. the 9.75 is an excellent axle, will be the same 5x135 pattern, and the L guys have run tons of power through it, no problems. it is actually about on par w/ a D60.

gearing
I hate to bring this up but...I have 6" lift with 35's. I found out to bring the truck back to stock I would need like a 4:09 something. so I was going to get 4:11's but after reading around alot of people said go 4:56's I was wondering what about 4:30's? is anyone running that ratio? I am afraid that 4:56 are to much. I am looking a little more than stock and I am putting a rear locker in it. thanks for the help.

Heck, I have 35" tires and will be going with 4.88's, just to have the extra gearing on my side. If you pay for it, might as well get your pennies worth.

New Tire Size / Old Tire Size X OEM Gears = New Gears.
35 / 30 x 3.55 = 4.1416666666666666666666666666667
Based upon this formula, I went from 3.55 to 4.10.
Keep in mind that I am gearing for daily driving in commute traffic. I would surely benefit from 4.56 if I needed a whole lot of torque for towing, off-road driving, + pulling myself out of dirt & mud. But for every day on-road & highway driving, the 4.10 is fine.

everybody thank you for the advise. I am going to go with the 4:30's I still tow with the truck but its also a daily driver and I drive 40 miles everyday to work and back. I am also going to go with a rear locker and when I get back from deployment I am going to through in a ati pro charger. the truck already has a 6" fabtech with 35" toyo muds, hypertech computer programmer, throttle body spacer, and cold air intake. again I want to thank everybody for the awesome advise!!!
