Exclamation LS bites the big one, waste of $$$. Useless- need a locker.

I was out yesterday looking at some tanks, getting ready for the upcoming dove season.
The "road" is getting washed real bad and at first I figured I wouldn't need to engage the 4wd. As I was crossing a very large rut, the right front tire dropped in the wash and the left rear tire went up into the air.
Now with LS there should have been some movement in the rear, but lo-and behold I was wrong. I learned that for the type of driving I do a LS is useless. I HAD to engage into 4wd and everything was fine.
I realize that when I order my PSD, I'll save the 275, add another 200 to it and get a detroit locker. Being that's about the only thing that'll take the torque.
I will be investing in a detroit gearless for my F-150. Even though it is going to my wife, any extra grip in those situations would be helpfull.

I'm not sure as to exact reason why, but if there is no resistance on the "drive" wheel, then no power transfer occurs. Had you lightly applied the brakes, the LS would have engaged. The factory LS is OK, but it definitely isn't a locker.

no big deal,
When I called Randys R&P a while back they said that they had detroits, all though there a several made by detroit, I was under the impression that they are out there.
I'll call tomrrow and post the results of my search.

Lightbulb

Randys R&P told me that they have the part # to the Powertrax no-slip locker, but they said they probably won't start receiving them from the manufacture untill late fall.

Drive train direct said that both Loc-right, Powertrax and Detroit are supposed to be putting out lockers soon.
Confirming the Powertrax statement from randys R&P.

All units described will be full locking units, from my understanding the Powertrax, being the easiest to install. Not quite as strong as the orginal detroit locker, but more than enough for the F-150 setup.

Thanks for the info. I have 2) 9" Detroit Lockers in 2) of my cars. I had not seen any ads for "true" "Detroit Lockers" for the 9.75" rear. Out of all the posi's I've seen, there seem to only be a couple that are compatible with the rear ABS exciter ring.
