Still waiting on Ford's recall fix.
Still waiting on Ford's recall fix.
Ford keeps telling me about the cruise control recall through mailings.
I keep calling Ford, they keep telling me they are waiting for parts. It has now been several years (I belive or more) since the recall started. What's the deal? I have even started calling all the local Ford dealers in my area thinking the one in town was just giving me the run around.
The truck came with cruise control as a extra cost item on the build sheet. I haven't been able to use it since they disabled it.
It is my understanding that Ford's solution / fix for this problem is to install a wiring kit that will tolerate being soaked with leaking brake fluid. Is this correct? How about installing a newly designed master cyl. or brake system parts that don't leak fluid and cause fires?
Is there a manufaturer or retailer that sells an improved master cyl. design that prevents the leak in the first place? Seems like a better and quicker fix.
I don't understand why they can't get enough parts to complete recall work, but have plenty of parts to due routine repairs they can charge for, or to build new trucks with. Is there a nationwide shortage on Ford parts? Are they hoping I'll just go away or my truck will die and go to rest in the local junk yard?

I was talking to the service advisor at my local dealer about this very thing the other day. Their hands are tied until Ford ships the parts. They expect the parts for the latest round of trucks to be in sometime in June. SOME vehicles get a new disconnect switch, but most get the fuse harness. That is also up to Ford, not the dealer.
It's not the master cylinder that leaks, it's the disconnect switch that screws into it.
Why so long to get the parts? The scope of this recall has been expanded at least once or twice, and now with the most recent round, there are a total of about 9 million vehicles affected.
