rearend swap
i have an 02 f150 with 3.55 nonlimited slip rearend. i dont like that plus eventually i want to put 4.10 in the rear. but seeing as how i have no idea how to make a nonlimited slip a limited slip i figured that id do a bit of hunting at the junkyard for a limited slip rearend then get some gears (i assume its easier that way, maybe cheaper) guess what im asking is if i find a rear end how would i know what gears are in it if its limited slip or not.i know if its still on the truck i can just run the door codes but if someone changed the rear then the codes are useless what to look for on the rear end to tell me whats in it and will it work with what i got?

stan2973,
To answer your question about identifying a rear end without a door tag; there should be a tag hanging off of the back side of the differential with a lot of numbers and what not, but look for any that say "3.55" or "3L55" or "3L73" and so on. If there's an "L" between the 3 and whatever else, it's a limited slip; if there's just a decimal point, it's an open rear end. There should also be an "8 8" or a "9 75" on the tag somewhere to show the size of the rear end. Hope this helps.
