Question Powertrax

Does anyone have any PERSONAL experience with the Powertrax no-slip differential?

I want to get the lock right for my Ranger, mainly because they don't make a No-Slip for it. The No-Slip is supposed to be smoother when it works, and more user friendly.

I am sure you have have read about it but here is a nice site that has different kinds of lockers and a discription of each. Randy's Ring & Pinion is also supposed to be good to work with about them as well, they will probably be who I go thru when the time comes.

have'nt had any experience with it but when i lived up in washington state, i called randy's r+p and asked about the powertraxx. talked to a couple of their mechanics, and they said they were having problems with them( don't know what) but the mechanic said they had stopped installing them at the shop cause of all the hastle.
I ended up gettin a detroit truetrac for my 8.8, cause i was regearing anyway. pretty reliable diff now. great positive traction. tires do chirp a little when you get on the gas around corners, and it helps out when off road. really keeps that one wheel spin down.
anyway, hope this helps you out some.

When you called Randy's were you talking about the right lock or the no slip? When did you talk to them? Was it recently?

I called and talked to them back in May, and I am pretty sure it was the powertraxx. Give the shop a call and ask them if they have had any problems. If you get one of the sales reps, ask them to transfer you to the shop where they do repairs/ installs. the mechanics there may give you some advice.
but take it as it is, and opinions are like a$%holes. everyone has one.

I have heard of Detroit EZ Locker having serious problems, they are a carbon copy of the Lock-Right but with weaker steel. From what I have heard the Powertrax units are usually pretty good.

I thank you all for your replies, but I was hoping to hear from someone who had personal experience with the Powertrax No-Slip. I'm not really interested in the Lock-Right.

Well they are kind of related, it might have been a mix up at Randy's is why I mentioned it.

powertrax

Pazzo,

I installed a powertrax unit in a 2003 Chevy 2wd that I owned before my F150 4X4. What did you want to know?

I am interested in traction and driveability on the road ( town and country) in the winter with snow and/or ice conditions.

powertrax

pazzo,

Ok I live in colo. and it improved the traction in that peg leg truck alot. Around town it will chirp the tires a little if you step down on the gas around corners too hard. If you coast most of your turns, it's fine and it mostly affects tight turns anyway. On the highway, you won't notice any difference at all. It took about 30-40 miles of city driving(turning left and right) to break it in. It will make little clicks and pops until break in and that's normal. Installation was straight forward with very good instructions. It took me about 3 hours on my garage floor. You do not have to mess with your ring and pinion. It's not a bad install at all. I didn't keep the truck much after I put it in so I don't know about longevity, but it did help a bunch in ice and snow, especially when I weighted down the back end. If you have any other questions, let me know.

Bob

rear its fine, do NOT put one up front. its absolutely scary as hell when your truck decides to pull towards the snow plow coming the opposite direction. the reason the no-slip will do the same thing up front as a lock right does is simply because the front tires will be both pulling. as soon as one grabs more traction thats the direction your going.

as for the lock rights i used front and rear, quality and strength seem to be an issue. i have 4.88 gears, a very tired 4.6 and 35" meats, i broke the lock right in the 8.8 rear in DIRT.... when i took the one out of my rear carrier i found that it was warped severely. it would only mesh in one position, the rest of the time it was spinning aimlessly when any amount of torque was applied. i suggest highly if you want a full time auto locker, shell out the bucks for a detroit locker, i did finally and it works flawlessly. it even works quieter around corners.

Ford 8.8" 31 Spline Open Carrier 3/4" Shaft
No-Slip Traction System
The Powertrax No-Slip Traction System is the latest design in traction adding differential technology. It combines the smooth operation of a limited-slip differential, with the traction performance of a locking differential.

Can someone tell me what is meant by "3/4" shaft"?
