Strange noise please help..

Im not car tech savvy but i believe the noise is coming from the crank shaft. i have a 2006 4.6L 4x4 w/ 3300 miles on it.. Im due for an oil changed so i dont know if that is the problem but basically sometimes when i accelerate this noise will happen for a brief 2 or 3 seconds and then be fine. Its hard to describe the noise but i guess you could say it sounds somewhat grindish. I did go offroading on wednesday but the trail was bone dry and the underside of my bumper got scraped up from deep ruts and dips, i sure hope it wasnt from that because that was the first time i had been off road.. i also didnt bother cleaning the dirt cause it didnt look bad but maybe that could be the cause of the noise.

thanks for the help!

ps- the truck drives normal its just the noise will come in and out.

Help me too! I have a similar grinding noise, I think. It kind of sounds like a bad wheel bearing (or when you spin something fast that is slightly to large on its axle then it wobbles and vibrates down to a breaking stop)and it only sounds off when I am starting out from a stop and most likely to happen when I am turning left. I know that a little grease leaked out from the left axle boot. I also have a little steering wheel shimmer at highway speeds. (I have had this on two seperate 2004 f150's, I am beginning to think that it is me!) thanks tt

As a general rule, I dont think that you should be getting any noises because you are due for an oil change.

Sounds like a warranty issue to me. Why not let the dealership figure it out?
