4:30 gears too steep for 33''?
My 3:55 is just killing my performance. I know 4:10 is prolly what i should go with, but 4:30 will give me even more performance.
I am already getting quotes from 4wp and local places around houston to do the gear swap and put a ls unit in. $950 sound good for 4:10 ford racing gears and oem ls unit installed? That comes with the install kit also.
thx

Even though i want max performance, i think its more practical for me to put 4:10 gears in. Also this local shop told me to get a ls unit that has a clutch. They said ones without a clutch clicks very loud when you turn. I was really looking foward to putting a detroit locker in too... Also this is just for street fun, no off-roading.

The diffence is practically unnoticeable...4.30 will give you about 4% more rpm at any given speed.
I had the same experience as Lumadar, we had the same tire sizes & gears. I'd do the 4.30s with 33s...considering that 4.56 is ideal for 35s, and lot of guys run 4.10s with stock tires, and rave about the resutls.

I just got my 4.10s, I love them but at times I kinda wish I would have gone a little steeper. I agree with Lumadar, go with the 4.30s if its an option. As an added plus, going from 3.73s to 4.10s brought my mileage up about 1.5 mpg.
As far as price, I paid $1600 for gears, master install kits and labor for the front and rear (I thought it was a little high but he was still cheaper than the other shop in town and he gave me a 90 day if you can hurt 'em I'll fix 'em free warranty). I don't know about the LS.
Definitely swap gears, you'll love it! Its not as big of change as FI but it’s a mod worth the money.

4:56 no doubt will give me even better performance, but i think that might be waaaay to steep for 33''. I think i am going to go with 4:30 gears and a detriot locker true trac. I dont think i'll have any regrets. At one shop a guy told me that non clutchless ls units make alot of clicking noise when you turn, is that old technology?
