Lightning VS. f150 4x4 rear ends... TEACH ME

What are the diffrences between a lightning rear end(2001) and a stock rear end on a 03 f-150 4x4? Stronger? Better brakes? Diffrent gears? Im clueless, and yall seem like the people who would know whats going on...

Thanks,
Cory

Oh, and Ill fill out my profile and everything later tonight. Ive got a lot of mechanical knowledge, I just dont know too much about these newer trucks yet(but if you need a hand with yer' Y-block or anything pre-60 let me know...)

They are both 9.75's, some f150's have 8.8's though. Not sure on the gears.

Only 4.2 and 4.6 engined F150s would have the 8.8.

I'm pretty sure the difference is in the tranny's not the rear gears. - 4R100's (100(x10)lbs of torque) in the Lightning's and F-150 7700's.

4R70w (70(x10)lbs of torque) in most F150's 4x4's.

They started out as F-250LD and switched F-150 at some point. They did have 7 lugs, not really sure why.

so i knewed it but i wasnt sure.

also, 02xlt4x4 look at the f250/350, 8 lug. much higher weight rating as well. not just from the lug count alone but its another clamping force adding more strength.

cars are usually 4 lug, why? no weight, and most the time not nuff power to hurt anything lol

it's got the infamous 7 lug pattern. I hate it when people call in looking for wheels to fit it too. you basically have 2 choices....

depending on the truck, i would probably say you have 3.55 in the the rear end. doesn't the lightning come stock with 3.73? other than that, size and everything is really the same

Yeah, but what is with the freaky 7 lug? The new heavy F-150's get by with 6. You would think for what it would cost to make a goofy wheel that would fit a handfull of trucks they could have cut to the chase and made it 8 like a full 3/4 ton. I know why they did it, it just seems odd.

The HD F150 with the 7 lug axle is a 10.25" rear end... It's the same semi float type that the 9.75" has and the 8.8 has... Same stupid "C" clip holding the axles in place...

The F250/350 have either a 10.25" or 10.5" Full Float rear end and is a much more beefier then the semi floats.....

The Lightnings should have the same 9.75" rear as any other 9.75" F150... They do come with the 3.73's standard I think??
