Gear Question

ok, I have used the search button so if this has been discussed a thousand times I am sorry. I am adding 285/75/16 swamper SSR's to the truck in July, and I am wanting to switch gears.

My question is, what would be the best gear? My truck is a 2001 supercrew 4x4 5.4 auto. It has 3.55 gears now and it is a dog with the 265/75/16's that are on it. moving up to a 285 would a 4.10 or a 4.56 be better? I do alot of towing, with a 16' flatbed and alot of in town driving, not alot of highway. What are your suggestions?

4.10 would be my suggestion based on that tire size. You'll probably get better mileage too. You're talking about a 33" tire, you could go to 4.56 but it will be pretty steep. If you ever plan to go up again to a 35" tire then I'd say go with the 4.56, otherwise I'd suggest the 4.10.
