masoball, you will have to get the silicone at the ford dealer, same w/ friction modifyer.I assume it has something in it to keep it from breaking down.

My 03 started shuddering at about 30,000 miles. I did the drain, refill, double friction modifier and figure 8's on pavement. I now have 70,000 with no problems so far.

i know most people like to put things back just like factory but what techs do
isnt what you think.if you drain all the ford fluid and add only the {royal purple}synthetic oil-it comes already mixed and works ALOT better for clutch
pacs.ive done thousands of overhauls from new clutches to add and refill.if
after using this product you STILL have a problem then you really need to get
an overhaul.

by an overhaul you mean to rebuild and/or replace the rear end?

an overhaul means new carrier, bearings, seals, etc.it would not be practical to
replace as a whole assembly unless it was bent.there is a kit that comes with
everthing you need.the clutch packs must be set in fluid prior to installing.

SAE75W-140 GL-5 synthetic gear lube, aprox 5.7pts.These are both ford part #s.The rear diff fill plug, torque to 15-30 Ft-lbs,cover bolts are 28-38 Ft-lbs in increments, don't do it all at once and go all the wat around the dif,if you do it all at once you may warp the the cover.
also when you silicone the diff cover make sure you go around all of the bolt holes besides the original bead you makealso there is something on here somewhere where it is suggested to drive in figure eights after completed.Oh and make the bead about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch, better to be a lil thick than not enough. Also make sure you scrape both the diff cover and surface of the diff, spray brake cleaner or similar on a rag and wipe the surfaces down before applying the RTV silicone.Make sure you follow the directions on the silicone for curing time. Also when you re-assemble try to get the cover in the right place so you don't have to move it around and screw your bead up.That's all i can think of for now.

Hope this helps,
Kevin
Kevin, I just pulled the rear diff cover, drained, cleaned, and re-filled with royal purple. Still got the grind this morning! How long after doing yours did you notice the grind not happening any more? Maybe it's coming from my front end. What do you think?

76,000 - just bought it a month ago, coudln't tell you if the bearings have been re-packed. How hard of a job is the bearings to do by yourself?

Most of the shudder should go away right away - mine did , but it also smoothed out considerably more within the next fifty miles. I've heard 75 mles before it completly goes away in some cases..

BTW - Permatex high heat "Black" RTV sealant was all I used and I didn't give it much more than an hour of cure time and had NO leaks.

Good Luck

No leaks for me either, yet, but I am noticing the sound/feeling of whatever this problem is to be getting more quiet every day. I don't drive a whole lot of miles, so hopefully it will stop soon.
