4x4 solenoid question??// problem?????

i'll make this short. 4x4 light is comming on, front drive shaft turns, but front tires don't...i have vacuum and power going to the solenoid's but i do not have vacuum at the front diff. i seperated the vacuum lines their in the fender well and no vacuum their so i checked the lines and they were ok. i got under the truck and pushed the actuator arm in and the 4x4 worked i can even turn it off at the dash but to get it to work again i have to get under their and push the actuctor shaft back in.... i can turn it off but not on?? but i don't have vacuum???? i don't get it!!!!!!!........... sorry so long

It's apparently getting intermittnet vacuum from the solenoids to the vacuum motor (center axle disconnect). Double-check the solenoids... I suspect one is (or both of them are) sticking.

i popped the top caps off the solenoids it looked clean inside all i could see was a little yellow foam washer. is their a way to "un-stick" them? and with the cap off are they supposed to do anything, so i can tell if their working? thanks!!

Remember one solenoid is to engage, and the other to disengage. They should never have vacuum to the diff at the same time.

Good question: I dunno. I admit I've never had one apart before. May have to add that to the list if I ever find one in a local pick-n-pull yard.

I think its obvious that the vacumm silonoid to engauge the 4x4 is not working.

Not necessarily.. the disengage solenoid could be sticking on as well. No vacuum on either one will cause the same symptom as vacuum on both.
