Swapping out 2wd front suspension for 4wd straight axle...

Has anybody ever tried this?? I recently swapped my 4.2V6 for a 4.6V8 out of a Lincoln. It was a JOB!!! Man does it make a difference though. I was wondering though, how hard it would be to swap my 2wd independent suspension for a 4wd straight axle. I was thinking of finding a dana 44 somewhere or even a dana 60 out of a F250 and adapting it to fit. I know there's cutting, welding, etc involved and that doesnt scare me Im just curious if anybody's attempted this on the newer (97-03) trucks??? I did it on my old Bronco, but it wasnt as intensive as this would be. Well, any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance....

i dont think you can make it a 4x4. The 4.6 out of a car is not the same as the one in the trucks. the one on the trucks have two more bolts on the bellhousing and the car is a aluminum block the truck one is iron. i bet you took the trans out of the car. the truck trans will not bolt up to a car 4.6. were i think you will have your problem is finding a transfer case to fit a car trans i dont think it will work. i have a 2001 f150 4x4 and it has a independent suspension.

It is not just a matter of cutting off the old and welding on the new. This is not something that should be attempted by someone that has no fabrication or chassis development knowledge. There are steering geometry issues, driveline angles, caster angles, and about a thousand other little things that can go wrong. If you are going to have this done, take it to a shop that knows what they are doing.
