What size rearend?

Is there a resource somewhere that will tell me what size rearend my 2002 F-150SC has? I have 3.55 gears in it and would like to consider moving to 3.73 for the additional 1,000lbs in gcvwr (12,500 vs. 13,500)?

On the towing subject, will just moving to the 3.73 gears get me the additional 1,000lbs of gcvwr just by itself? I noticed this note on the F-150 specs beside the 3.73 gears.

"Available with 7700 Payload Group A only"

What all does "payload group A" consititute and would it keep me from having a truck with the gcvwr I am shooting for if I replace just the gears?

Thanks folks,

-LS

From: Georgia on my mind...
Crawl under the truck and look at the toe tag on the cover. It'll be marked, either "88" for an 8.8" rear, or "975" for a 9.75" rear. I'm also honestly not sure on the previous gen trucks, but 5.4 liter trucks should come standard with the 9.75" axle, 4.6 liter trucks had 8.8s; at least it's like that on the '04+ models.
