4wd conversion

i have a 93 f150 2wd and my dad has a 70s 1/2 ton parts truck. i was wondering if i could take the front axle, tranny , and transfer case and make mine 4wd. ive heard of it being done but i was wondering if those 2 years will work together and if theres and kind of fabricating you have to do. oh and will i need a new driveshaft or not?

I don't think the parts will work, about every 3 to4 years they change everything. The cost and time could be used to get a 4x4 and you don't have to fight getting stuff to fit and work.

It would be hard to tell if it's possible on those two particular years. However i can tell you that if you are serious about this it is gonna be a difficult build since your truck is a 2wd. If it was 4wd all you would have to swap out is the front axle and build a custom 4-link. You're looking at a lot of compatibility issues with this swap. I know of solid axles from 80's fords put on a 96 F150 and i've seen them on newer trucks as well. BUT those trucks were already 4x4 just IFS. Maybe go to a local offroad shop that offers straight axle conversions and ask them. I'm sure that the conversion is possible but it would have to be done by a competent fabricator because you WILL need a custom 4-link setup (sweet *** setup) as for the driveshaft I would say yes you probably will need a new one and all you have to do is measure and order one. You will also have to find an adaptor kit for the tranny which may not even be offered. Do some research and find a good offroad shop. Good luck!

actually i need to make a little change because i did a little research, ford stopped making front straight axles in 79' so the axle that was on my friends 96' f150 had to be from a 79' or older so keep your hopes up!!
