Standard (read non-package) 4 wheel drives are badged 4X4.
Earlier OFR (Off Road Package) have 4X4 Off Road badging.
Newer FX4 (Off Road package) have FX4 badging.

I'll leave the differences to someone else who has, or has had, one of these packages.

What you have is a regular 4x4. The 4x4 offroad and the FX4 are the same things. They were called 4x4 offroad up until 2001, from 2002 and on they changed the name to FX4. There is no difference between the offroad and the fx4 other than the rims and stickers.

The difference between your truck and one of the offroad/fx4 trucks is, the latter gives you some fancy POS shocks, skid plates, fancy rims and a little bigger tires.

When they changed to FX4 in 02 you got Rancho 9000 shocks, good from what I hear, plus whatever the off road pkg's had previously.

Actually they're not the 9000's, they're not any of ranchos shocks. They are the same as the shocks on all of the pre 2002 offroad trucks. They have the same specs and the same valving, they're just built by rancho.

The only difference between the shocks is the color, and one is built by somebody else.
