Silencer Removed
Not sure if it's the same on your truck as it was for mine. But I have the 04 4.6 It's my understanding that the silencer is the part of the intake system that chokes down the filter housing going into the fenderwell of your truck. I just had to disconnect my airbox from the fender and with a slight twist/pull the Silencer tube came out, reinstalled the airbox..... I have a factory replacement K&N..... cant tell anything power wise, but you can hear a little more of a suction sound under acceleration..... Like I said I cant tell anything by seat of my pants.... doesnt feel faster, but doesnt feel slower. Just sounds a little better.
Hope that helps! I had the same question a few weeks ago about the silencer. Try a search, I think there were some pic's on here showing you step by step.
GoodLuck

Go to comment #14, this is what you want to take out if you have a 4.6L. Took mine out this weekend, it was a pain to get out! Made the truck a little louder, don't know if it was any faster though, even though it appeared to me it was.
