can't figure out problem...need help!

I have a 2000 F150 with the smaller V8 (I think a 4.6L) engine. The truck starts without problem and accelerates fine. However, once I have to slow the vehicle down to a stop or near stop it starts acting like the truck is going to die. The rpm guage drops way down, bounces around a little bit and then returns to normal. The truck has not died once yet but the frequency of this occurring has increased to almost every time I slow down. It has gotten so bad that if I slow down enough for a turn I loose my power steering in the turn for a split second because the engine almost dies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is an idle control thingy on the intake. As I recall, when you have probs with it, you can try to clean it or replace.

Run a search for IAC and see if you notice any simlarities.

Do you have a check engine light?
I vote vacuum leak.
Do a search for vacuum leak or code P0171 P0174.
Check the engine forum.
Good luck.
