Post idle hum

I didn't post this under the rough idle/vibration threads because it seems different from the symptoms described there. This hum only occurs when stopped with the truck in gear and the brake applied. If I shift into Neutral the hum stops. I have tried to find where it's coming from. I applied the E-brake put the truck in gear and checked all around it. The only places I hear the hum are in the cab and right at the front of the bed where it meets the cab. I can't hear it from underneath the truck or under the hood.

I do 'feel' it in the gas pedal.

I think it must be drivetrain related because the noise stops when in Neutral.

(Just because I give everybody a hard time, I know you guys won't hold that against me.)

If somebody don't solve this for me, I'm going to buy a Chevy !
The Bank ain't going to like if I tell them their $25,000 truck has a flaw!

Raoul, I have a 4.6 and it has a humming sound when in drive and the brakes applied also. I thought it was normal, now I'm all upset cause if you got it must be bad. I will check it out on my way to the local Chevy dealer tommorow, there just giving those Siverado's away. I'll let you know what I find.

Raoul, I checked the idle hum on my truck today. At normal operating temp idleing and in drive it has low pitch hum. In neutral it stops. I did not check outside of the cab.

*Mine* hums 'cause it doesnt know the words!
Actually i do have an intermittent hum in it and its been around ever since I took out the silencer which is located between the airbox and the throttle body. There is a slight air leak in the tube. I know what it is and I live with it. When i step on the gas it goes away...and when I feather the throttle it also goes away.

Maybe we can get a F-150 online Site discount buying Chevies.

Cool

Hey Raoul - I know why a bee hums, cause it's got his "honey" between his legs !!!!

I DON"T know why the tranny hums - mine does exactly the same thing as yours.

SOMEONE on this board must have a clue.

Until your post - I thought I was the only one !!!
