Front Diff 4x4 oil ?
Front Diff 4x4 oil ?
All,
What type of oil do I need for the front diff. I have a '03 FX4? The manual says 75w-90 4x4 front diff oil. The dealer parts dept. claims they dont make that type. I want to use Motorcraft brand, any ideas?

Ford has replaced 75w-90 oil with 75w-140. They are both full synthetic. After introducing the latter, Ford discontinued the 75w-90. The oil is around $18 a quart. Apparently, there were problems with the 75w-90. Good luck.

I used Amsoil 75-90 in my front diff.
I have been using Walmart 75-140 in the rear diff for two years now with no problems. It is only $8 per quart. Although use the friction modifier if you have a LS rear diff.
Good luck

Why do you want to use motorcraft?
Just grab some name brand 80w 90 at the parts house.
My old truck has 270,000 miles on it with never problem with the axle using el cheapo oil that I would change only after submersing it in water over the vent tube. So with the all of that towing that I did, running water in the oil, I don't see any point in paying for high dollar oil in the front that will never see loads like the rear. So when I put the locker and 4.10 gears in the front of this 2000 truck I just put Vavoline 80w 90 for a few bucks a quart. Just my 2 cents.
