Best Gears For The $?
I HAVE A 99 F150 4X4. I AM GOING TO REBUILD THE MOTOR (166000 MILES) AND WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE MY GEARS. I WANT TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAS ALREADY DONE A STUDY ON WHO HAS THE BEST PRODUCT FOR THE $ AND WHAT GEAR IS BEST FOR ALL AROUND PERFORMANCE. I WOULD LIKE TO GO TO A 4.56 BUT WONDERING IF THAT MY KILL MY G/M OR NOT. I PLAN TO RUN EITHER 33/12.50 OR 35/12.50. I TOW BOTH A TRAILER AND A BOAT WEIGHING AROUND 3500LBS.I CURRENTLY HAVE 3.55 AND WOULD 4.10 BE SUFFICIENT OF GO ALL OUT WITH 4.56. ALSO DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT G/M THEY GET RUNNING THESE RATIOS? ANY INFO WULD BE APPRECIATED.
if you do alot of towing with your truck and you have 33" tires i recomend a 4.56 or if you do alot of highway maybe a 4.10, if you dont do alot of highway and do alot of towing and have 35" tires i recomend 4.88, or if you just have the 35" 4.56, and your gas milage is diffrent for every vehicle and driving habit, but the rule of thumb is the lower your gear the less gas is needed to get going in stop and go traffic so with lower gears your city MPG will emprove and your highway will be less, precision makes a very good gear best ring and pinion manufactuer in my book, good luck
