1999 F-150, 2wd 4.6L V-8, Auto. Axle code is H9. I think I have 355 gears with a limted slip. What rear end do I have?

 

H9 is 3.55 limited slip, I've got the same gear and code in my '04. The axle itself should be the 9.75.

 

If he has the 4.6, then he has the 8.8 rear end..... Only the 5.4 get the 9.75....

But... I've heard that there are a few 4.6's with the 9.75 axle. Is there anyway to be sure?

 

8.8 has 10 bolts holding the cover. 9.75 has 12.

8.8 is 'rounder' in shape. 9.75 is kinda 'oval'

8.8 'looks' small. 9.75 looks big...

The only 'exception' that I can even think of them putting in a 9.75" rear end with the 4.6 engine would be on the F250 Light Duty from 1977-2000 or the F150 '7700' from 2001-2003.... Then those might have even been the semi floating 10.25??? However, I've never seen one of these with the 4.6 in them anyway....
