u joints
u joints
hey i was just wondering if someone who has changed them before explain exactly how to do it? im just replacing the rear u joint (in front of rear dif) on my 00 5.4 auto. is it as easy as it sounds? and what kind of price am i looking for a new u joint? im planning on doing it tue.
Why not replace both u-joints? Start by marking the driveshaft pinion flange in relation with the pinion flange.Use a 12mm 12 point socket or wrench to remove the bolts.Remove the driveshaft and put it on a flat surface.Either use a large c-clamp or a vice to remove the u-joints.Remove the c-clips.Use a smaller socket to push the u-joint out the other side into a larger socket.Reverse this method to install the u-joint.DO NOT LOSE ANY NEEDLE BEARINGS! Or,you can have a shop install them for about $25.00 each.U-joints vary from $7.00 to $15.00 each.
Something to keep in mind when you install your replacement U-Joints.
Make sure you install them so you'll be able to get a grease gun on the zerk fitting once it's put back together.
It's a 50/50 if you're not paying attention and believe me you'll be cursing your self if you put them in "backwards."
