4x4 problem
4x4 problem
i have a 93 f150 and i had auto locking hubs then one of them stop working so they were replaced with manual hubs when i got it now a few weeks ago i was driving with my hubs locked but not in 4wd and as i was leaving a stop light i heard a loud bang in the front passenger side. and then as i was slowing down it happened again. i got out and unlocked my hubs and the passenger side and the hub would turn half way and get stuck. i had to use pliers to turn it the rest of the way. i replaced the hub and now i only have 3wd that tire will not turn. if anyone has any ideas please let me know ive ran out of ideas.
If that wheel won't turn you have two wheel drive. Both front wheels have to be locked for the front axle to engage. If one unlocks, the front axle is dead. If you weren't in four wheel drive, the pop most likely has nothing to do with the hubs, because the front driveshaft was not being driven from the transmission. Did you check the axle joints, u joints, ball joints, wheel bearings for being loose? Jack up both front wheels, lock the hubs, and turn the driveshaft by hand and watch the wheels to see which axle turns without the wheel turning.

Unless you have a posi unit in your front differential, only one tire will spin and it is the one with the least amount of load on it at the time. If you do not have a posi unit in the rear, then your "four wheel drive truck" is at best a two wheel drive. Usually the right rear and left front tires spin when in a bind.
