A4WD Question

So my wife was driving our 2001 5.4 A4WD Expedition (80K miles) yesterday when she calls me on my cell to tell me something is wrong with the truck. She said that the 4X4 light came on and that when she turned real tight, that the truck didn't want to move. (Turned out to be axel wrap).

She says that she didn't accidentally turn the **** to 4HI, and everything was fine until she saw the 4X4 light on with the **** in the A4WD position.

My question to you guys is, have you ever heard of these trucks engaging 4HI by themselves? I've done some searching and have found lots of threads on trucks switching OUT of 4X4 into A4WD, but not the other way around.

I plan on changing the fluid in the T-case this weekend, but was just wondering if anyone has had similar problems?

If the 4x4 light is on, she accidentally hit the button. Only explaination.
