Power steering pump noise
2002 Ford F150 4 X 4 with power steering pump "scraping" noise on cold start (below +25 deg F). On cold start, power steering pump emits scraping sound until up to speed at engine idle. My dealer has looked at it, had the vehicle overnight in -20F temp to confirm, "yeah it's the pump, yeah it makes loud noise on cold startup, yeah it quits as pump runs up to speed, no we don't have a fix, no there's no replacing it on Ford warranty, we've seen this before and don't recall failures but do come back if/when it fails."
Anyone out there have a similar power steering pump noise issue? Tried anything like different fluids (synthetic?), some sort of adjustmemt of pump back plate or other "fix"?

. It's called morning sickness and it's common. Start by changing the PS fluid with Mobil1 ATF.
