four wheel drive problem

I have a 2001 with 40,000 miles. The 4 wheel drive shifts in fine at any speed however when I switch it back to 2wd it will not shift out until I come to a complete stop. Any ideas what is going on?

atleast you don't have to back up.mine used to shift in and out of 4x4 fine.but now i have to back up to get it out.probably just the way it wears in.
