4x4 engagement problems

I have a 98 F150 4x4, electronic shift on the fly. TC was stuck in 4L the other day. Replaced the actuator motor. The old actuator motor has a brown wire running from the motor to the output housing on the TC. The new "revised" assembly does not. What is this wire for? Its not the speed sensor.

Figured out that the wire is athe magnetic clutch coil wire. The dude at the dealership said cut it, so I did (damn I'm a DA). Now I just have to splice the wire. I've tried not to half *** the stuff on my truck, looks like there is always a first.
