Question Klunk..transmission or drive train?

Hello,

I have a 2001 F150 SuperCrew 5.4ltr XLT. 38,000 miles.

Need to know if anyone has experienced the same noise and klunk.

When driving on the freeway and the exiting, slowing down around the cloverleaf, then re-accelerating, many times there is a "KLUNK" when the transmission re-engages. When it happens, the truck seems to "kick" into gear - sometimes hard sometimes not hard. It also sometimes happens on city streets when slowing, then accelerating. It sounds like something is eventually gonna break if it keeps up! I cannot tell if it's the transmission or something in the linkage or cross member maybe.

I've checked the U-Joints for sloppyness, but they seem tight.

I've taken it to the dealer 2 times now and they cannot seem to find anything wrong at all. In fact, one mechanic said he thinks it's normal. I'm having a hard time believing that given the harshness of it sometimes! Not sure what to think.

Anyone else have this symptom?

Thanks

I read somewhere on this forum that its the drive shaft splines (transmission output shaft) that are "dry" of lubrication.

remedy: clean/lubrcate the splines.
