Upgrade to LS?

I was arguing with a friend who insists I should have got the LS, he said one winter and you'll want it but had no idea how much it would cost to upgrade.
For those of you in the know on LS, theoretically how much would you be looking at to add a decent aftermarket LS or selectabe locker? I have a 4WD and deal with a lot of nasty winter weather, didn't get the LS b/c my old truck didn't have it I figured I didn't need it on this one either. Foolish, maybe, but hindsight is 20/20 I guess I should have just spent the money in the first place when I ordered the truck.

My 94 F150 short bed off road 4x4 did not have traction lock. I replaced it with a 2000F150supercab4x4 with rear TL. The 2000 is much better in the snow even with Good Year Wrangler 255/70x16 RTS tires compared to the 31x10.5x15 off road tires on the 94.
Next time buy the TL.

Gearman.....I live in Cincy now. If I drive up to Indy for a Saturday, could you install an Eaton kit on my '97 F150? How much would that run?

I dont have the facilities at home to do the gearwork (on vehicle); however, I can give a recomendation of a shop near Sharonville, OH or a local Guy, close to my home in Indy. Let me know & I can connect you with these people. Thanks, gearman

Fatman66,

I was curious as to whether you added the LS as I was thinking of doing this myself. If so, how much? I have read so much controversy on LS with many not liking it (gist:oversteer, funny hnadling on tight corners, tire wear, much more likely to doughnut on an icy patch, superflous on 4X4, just going to get stuck a little later if you were going to get stuck at all, very unlikely you would need often enough to justify the expense, my mechanic says faggettabout it, just as good the way you have it-you're not going to get stuck in THAT 4X4, etc.).

BUT, if you did get it done-what do you think and how much was everything?

Thanks!

Steve

Gearman-

Well, I would appreciate a recommendation on that shop in Sharonville. The LS might be a big help this winter. Thanks in advance....

800-998-0282, ask for Junior. Junior is the best gear guy in the shop.

I don't have the cash to do it right now (I'm still trying to scrape up the cash for a line-x) and I'm thinking of trying one upstate NY winter w/o it first and if its not bad then I probably won't get it. I have many of the same concerns as you and I have an 04 so i'm also a little concerned with warrenty issues but if this winter sucks i'll bite the bullet and go aftermarket next spring. Should have paid the extra $300 and got it, stupid me.
