Miles On 35's???
Miles On 35's???
Ok, How many of you guys have 35" tires on your truck with original gear ratios and transmissions and are in hi (over 50,000) mileage with no problems?
Just a little poll here tonight.....please chime in with what trans you have and what your stock ratio is.

Does it count if its not the same trans? Its all in my signature how well I think 35s work. I'd also like to suggest that you remove about 3 pages from your signature. Damn that thing is annoyingly long.
had about 1000 miles on mine before a gasket blew that they said ussually doesn't go bad. That was on a ford rebuilt tranny. Would never run 35's on stock gearing( I had 3.55) again unless they were 3.73's and even then it would be for about the miles it takes to get to the gear shop.
I've got about 11,000 on mine and no problems so far. I am thinking of going with 4.56s, just not sure when (maybe next year, after the wedding). I don't push my truck though, which may help.

Yeah Powerstroke ill get right on that. (As soon as you stroke this)
Maybe next time you should only awncer
posts that pertain to you. It does not say "please speculate on how you think your truck will handle 35's" OR "how is you tranny holding up to 285's". Ever dawn on you that some people joined this site have an intrest in what extras others are running.
Again, sorry to waste all your valuable time with my sig; hope this reply hasn't wasted too much either.

Thanks to you other two guys that chimed in with prudent information.

Well I guess its true what they say about people from TexASS
You are a fawking idiot newb aren't you. If you had read my signature a littlemore closely I said my 35s were off BECAUSE my tranny couldn't handle them. What do I know, I only ran them for over 20k. They took out 1 trans very quickly after I put them on and they took a toll on my current trans before I took then off. When I said that the 4R70W can't handle them vey well I speak from FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE. I'm sorry I didn't spell everything out for you, but I assumed that most people who would read that could connect the dots on your own. But I guess if you need me to hold your hand. I can tell you exacty how a 4R70W can hold up to 255/70/16, 265/75/16, 285/75/16, and 315/75/16. I've run a set of each of those at one point or another.Oh and your signature is still annoying as **** and it a waste of server space. I really wish that Steve had done here what they did at FTW and disallow the use of signatures so it didn't take 2 hrs to scroll through a post.

Its like my dear old daddy used to say "Its better to let others assume your an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
Im so glad you feel all high and mighty about being a "senior member" and can talk down to "newbies".
All is great as long as PowerJOKE can paste his usless $.02 on everyones posts for no good reason (except to run up his post status numbers.) Dosnt take much to STROKE some peoples egos.
Let me tell you something SON.....real life expirences and AGE (If you ever grow up) will change your additude one day OR a Texan will. With the amount of sh.. you talk I can see why your scared to post your location!
Be sure to read the sig. dedicated to your yellow belly!

P-stroke has been here for a long time and has a valuable, experienced opinion on Ford drivetrains. He answered your question fairly, so just leave it at that. I've seen a lot of experts abandon this board because of the ignorance of a few. Please don't perpetuate this trend.
To answer your question indirectly, I have run 35's on a older GMC and had no problems. But I had 4.10's in it. On my Ford I put on 265's which are 1.5 inches larger causing a major loss of power and mileage. Not only that but my transmission temps are very high in city traffic and driving easy. My next tire will be a 285, however I'll be re-gearing and adding electric fans before that happens.

Crashz.... I guess your correct in the fact that it does not take much to drive "senior members" away sometimes. That is not and has never been my intention.
I dont understsnd how someone 25 years old can be such a seasoned vetren and have everyone else hanging on his every word like the gospel.
If the guy has a real world expirence then by all means post it. But on the same note I read alot of B.S. from this guy so worried about the loss of server space that has nothing to do with the questions at hand.
Call it as you see it but the comments on my sig. were not prudent to the topic and were un-appricated.
Now I will leave this alone. Gordon

It will downshift alot sooner on hills and while fighting headwind. I also felt that they significantly weakened my trans and then my 35s finished it off in short order. There are a few things I'd do that I wish I would have known about when I put on my 285. First is make sure you have an auxilliary cooler for it, the bigger the better. I'm running a 28000 GVWR cooler. Then install a tranny temp guage so you can keep an eye on how its doing. Then I'd put in a Transgo shift kit or a Factory Tech valve body. Both of these will help shorten the shift duration keeping heat down, and the valve body would be the best way to go, but its more expensive. The other thing is to make sure the tranny keeps shifting when its supposed to. This is done with the VSS gear on 97/98 and reporgraming the digital speedo on the 99-03s. Now all this is done in place of regearing which is the best way to keep the tranny healthy by keeping the gear ratio as close to what it was at the factory as you can. This would be 4.10 gears with 33s translating into about a 3.73 ratio from the factory. Now I'd do these mods in this order.
1. Reprogram speedo (if its a VSS gear its about $10 for the gear, otherwise about $40)
2. Temp guage
3. Trans cooler
4. Shift kit or valve body
Some people say that doing all of these things is excessive, but consider the alternative. A $1700 rebuild and having your truck leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere. You're talking roughly $400-500 worth of stuff compared to a rebuild + tow bill + not having a truck for awhile.

Thanks Powerstroke for yor help!
I have the trans cooler and plan to purchase the superchip programer. Is that what your talking about as for reprograming? I know it's more money to buy the programer but i'm hoping to gain HP also. If I understand correctly the shift points will be altered back to factory specs. I'm also thinking the superchip setup makes the shifts firmer which is better on the trans, correct?

Yes, the firmer shifts will help, but ideal would be the valve body as it will allow for better shifting than even the SCMT can provide. Then on top of that it flows more fluid helping to cool the trans better. Now to program your truck the SCMT will work IF its a 99-03 F150. If its a 97/98 then it won't work as the speedo and odometer take their readings from the VSS gear on the side of the trans. If its a 99-03 its a computer controlled unit and can then be reprogramed.
Hey Powerstroke73 i wouldnt complain about how ford builds there cars. i mean who puts 35's on a ranger with a 2L engine and expects to go anywhere i mean i dont think its ur tranny it might be the lawnmower engine you have in it
